Over the spring and summer terms of 2024 we expanded to many new areas where we hadn’t worked before. This included a few inner London boroughs (Hammersmith and Fulham, Brent, Kensington and Chelsea) but also happily some of the outer London boroughs as well (Barnet, Kingston and Bromley).
We were also delighted to begin our expansion beyond London, with some of our first pilot volunteers and schools in Oxford. Over the whole academic year (Sept 2023 - July 2024) we delivered our programme to 189 cohorts of students, which means c.5300 children in total.
We continued to receive great feedback from schools and students.
Here are some comments from teachers:
The sessions were able to cover a complex and vast subject in a manageable, child-centred manner.
Our volunteer was amazing - she had an excellent presence with the children and was extremely knowledgeable.
These workshops are invaluable and something that should be taught in every primary school.
And from students:
I want to do these workshops for the rest of my life! I loved all of it and it amazed me how many things you could learn.
They taught me a lot and now I can do something small but it would make a difference.
I really enjoyed them, it made me want to go to School on Tuesdays!
One word – amazing.
We’re very excited that in September we will be launching the programme in Birmingham. And we plan to start work in more UK cities beyond that.
Thank you as ever to all the volunteers for their hard work and commitment over the last year.
